Located in the centre of Piedmont (Piemonte), the most prestigious wine region of Italy, is a calm and noble city, with medieval towers, elegant churches and red roofs. A liveable city to be visited afoot, walking among medieval streets, full of towers (reason why Asti has also called "city of the one hundred towers"), nineteenth-century squares, baroque and liberty buildings. Corso Alfieri, the ancient Fulvia Street, the main road that crosses the historical centre from West to East, shows the most important monuments. Don't skip the Baptistery of S. Pietro (the visit to the rotunda and the courtyard is free, no more than half an hour is needed) and the Crypt of Sant'Anastasio (rests Romans and lapidary museum). The best months to plan a visit are May, during the Carolingia Fair, and September to see Palio and Sagre |
